Resources from Mister Rogers to Help Families Cope in Times of Stress
Now, more than ever, we may all be experiencing some of the same feelings that young Freddie Rogers felt. Isolated. Sad. Scared. Stressed. Angry.
The life lessons that came out of those feelings though helped shape not just Fred Rogers, but an entire nation of children who tuned into his program to learn empathy, kindness, how to understand and share their emotions, and treat others well.
Physical and emotional health became a focus for Mr. Rogers. Now, almost 70 years after his first children’s program aired on community-supported television station WQED, Fred Rogers Productions continues to support families with emotionally-conscious programming.
As educators, and especially as newly-appointed homeschoolers, we always appreciate new resources that can help our children learn and grow. That’s why we’re so excited about the resources that Fred Rogers Productions has compiled.
In response to COVID-19, Fred Rogers Productions recently shared “Resources to help Families during COVID-19,” which features a list full of virtual events, activities, social initiatives, and family-friendly programming to help children and families.
Included in the family resources are links to programs like Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood episodes, Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, Peg + Cat, and Odd Squad, as well as updates about virtual story times with show creators, and links to daily activities, crafts, and recipes on their Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages.
