Ask NYLearns – Episode 1: Summer Curriculum Writing
Maximize your summer vacation by using NYLearns to get a headstart on your curriculum writing.
Spend a little more time on the beach this summer by getting a headstart on your curriculum writing with NYLearns. What do I mean? Let’s take a look at how NYLearns can help you maximize your summer vacation.
- Recycle last year’s planbooks by changing the dates for the upcoming year
- Review last year’s notes and reuse curriculum maps
- Create a summer folder in your NYLearns ePortfolio to save all of your standards-aligned resources in one convenient location
Recycle Your Old Planbooks for Next Year
You can recycle your curriculum by opening up last year’s planbooks and changing the dates for the upcoming year. This way, your first 8 weeks are already planned out for you. Plus, you can review notes you made on your Planbooks throughout the previous year to make any necessary adjustments for this year.
Reuse Curriculum Maps
Why not start by reviewing and reusing last year’s curriculum maps? With NYLearns, all of your curriculum maps are saved so you can modify them for the next school year. Plus, with the Notes for Teaching column, you can look back to see what worked and what didn’t to update your maps for the upcoming school year.
Plus, with the new Statewide Shared Curriculum Maps tool, you can collaborate on curriculum with other content experts across New York State!
Refresh Your ePortfolio
Emailing links to yourself can get messy and possibly confusing. NYLearns ePortfolio lets you save all of the great resources, bookmarks, websites, and lessons that you find this summer in one convenient location. Just copy the link and drop it into your summer folder with a good title and you can access it from any computer with an internet connection.
NYLearns also has hundreds of free, ready-to-use teaching resources for the classroom in our Featured Content section. Find lesson plans, multimedia, and activities, and save them directly to your ePortfolio. Then at the end of the summer, you’ll have all of the resources you need to build stellar curriculum maps.
So what are you going to do this summer with all of that extra time you saved using NYLearns?
